Is Your Church Being Replaced By The Purpose Driven Church?

Many local churches today are being overshadowed, replaced, with what is called the “Purpose Driven Church".

Dr. Rick Warren stated on May 23, 2005, at the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life:
“The word 'fundamentalist' actually comes from a document in the 1920s called the Five Fundamentals of the
Faith. And it is a very legalistic,
narrow view of Christianity.”

The five fundamentals of the faith to which Dr. Warren objected are:

1. The inerrancy and full authority of the Bible

2. The virgin birth and full Deity of Jesus Christ

3. The bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead

4. Christ’s atoning, vicarious death for the sins of the world

5. The literal second coming of Jesus Christ

Are we to believe that Christians who hold to these basic foundational doctrines of the Christian faith are narrow and legalistic? On the contrary. The Bible teaches that we are to stand up and proclaim the 5 foundational doctrines mentioned.

Dr. Warren, author of The Purpose Driven Church and The Purpose Driven Life has stated:
“When you reveal the vision of the Purpose Driven Church to a church, the old pillars are going to leave. But let them leave . . . they only hold things up."

Dr. Warren is right in one way. It is the senior members of the church who do indeed hold a church up and keep it from falling into apostasy.
To start a Purpose Driven Church or change to one with the full knowledge and consent of the membership is one thing, but to practically steal a church from Christians who have given and served to build it without their knowledge or consent is quite another. Don’t be fooled by WOLF-IN-SHEEP-S-CLOTHING2.JPGthe Saddleback website, or the Purpose Driven Church concept. Be careful! There are many wolves in sheep's clothing.

I Timothy 4:1
Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;
I Timothy 6:3 If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness;
II John 1:9 Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son.
II John 1:10 If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed:

While some PDC initiators may not implement the full PDC format, generally there are signs indicating that a church may be targeted for a Purpose Driven Church format.

If you would like to know the 24 signs indicating that a church is going in the direction of becoming a Purpose Driven Church, I will send to you, FREE, a brochure titled:

There is nothing wrong with a church being large or small, as long as that church stands on the basic fundamentals of the Word of God!

Remember: "A person who does not stand for something will fall for anything." There are many sheep who are not listening to the Shepherd's voice. Some are not paying attention and are being led astray! May God help us to stand up for our Lord!
Please pray for your Pastor, church leaders, your church family and our country.

Oh, one more thing: In case you didn't know, the "Purpose Driven Church" movement is also known as the "Emerging Church" movement

Because of Christ,

Lewis R. Woodard, D.Min.
